President Ghani: Kabul Ring Road Significant to Economic Growth PDF Print E-mail

A meeting chaired by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani at the Presidential Palace discussed the construction of Kabul ring road.

At the outset, Minister for Public Works presented the construction plan for Kabul ring road and proposed that a working group made up of representatives from Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Urban Development, Kabul Municipality and Afghanistan Land Authority be set up to further follow up on the implementation of the plan.

The meeting discussed all the technical, economic, security and social aspects of the project and highlighted the responsibilities of the relevant entities.

President Ghani described Kabul ring road not just a road but a strategic urban development project. He continued that public engagement, security, social and environmental impacts of the project, expropriation and infrastructural affairs are all the key issues that need to be considered prior to implementation of this project.

The President called construction of Kabul ring road as significant to economic growth saying that Kabul’s economic future depends on this project.

President Ghani stressed that all concerned government agencies need to prepare a holistic plans in full view of all the important elements of the project including cost estimation, legal aspects, stopping land grabbing, technical issues, infrastructure and sewage system and present the plan in two weeks.

Participants to the meeting included Ministers for Urban Development, Public Works and Transport ministries, Acting Mayor of Kabul Municipality, Commander of Kabul Garrison, former Director General of National Directorate of Security Amrullah Sahel, and a number of other state officials.
