“Win the war in Afghanistan and defeat the enemy”—The New Mission for U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan:

Yesterday, U.S. announced its strategy for Afghanistan and south Asia.  This strategy is the result of seven months comprehensive review by President Trump administration to complete.  It will bring dramatic changes in the war against the Taliban and other terrorist groups.   There is a clear goal and mission set for this strategy.  The U.S. is determined to win this war in Afghanistan.  The security threats from Pakistan posed to Afghanistan and the United States are immense. The U.S. can no longer tolerate sheltering Taliban and other terrorist groups.

This strategy will target the Taliban and other terrorist groups in the region.  U.S. troops are now determined to fight to win. Victory is clearly defined in this strategy as President Trump said “attacking our enemies, obliterating ISIS, crushing al Qaeda, preventing the Taliban from taking over Afghanistan, and stopping mass terror attacks against America before they emerge”.

The Afghan Government has been repeatedly outlining the root of the problem in the region.  We told our international partners that Afghanistan is the victim of this war.  We are facing an imposed war.  We are fighting in the front line of war against terrorism whose sanctuaries and hideouts are in Pakistan.  The war will not end, unless terrorist sanctuaries are closed down.

United States said that it can no longer be silent about Pakistan's safe havens for terrorist organizations, the Taliban, and other groups that pose a threat to the region and beyond. Pakistan has sheltered terrorist organizations that try every single day to kill Afghans and Americans.  The U.S. has made it clear that Pakistan has much to gain from partnering with our effort in Afghanistan. It has much to lose by continuing to harbor criminals and terrorists.  This has to stop immediately, or Pakistan will soon be isolated.

A core pillar of the U.S. new strategy is a shift from a time-based approach to an approach based on conditions.  This is sending a clear message to the Taliban that they cannot win the war they are fighting on behalf of others.  They cannot hide anywhere and there will be no mercy on them this time.  They are enemies as long as they denounce war and lay down weapons. ANSDF and the U.S. forces will go after them.  They cannot hide. Afghan heroes in commando and U.S. forces will go after them and target them where ever they are.   As President Trump said “We are killing terrorists”.

Now, with this winning strategy, the Taliban and their supporters in Pakistan has one message to know— time to stop harboring the Taliban and terrorists and time to close down their hideouts—time to stop sponsoring terrorism—time to cooperate with the Afghan government and the U.S. to fight the Taliban and terrorism.  Time to reconcile and integrate into the society.  This is the only and the right option for the Taliban.

To the Taliban and other groups! President Trump has lifted restrictions the previous administration placed on U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan which had prevented the U.S. troops from fully and swiftly waging battle against the Taliban and other terrorist groups.  Now, soldiers have the required authority to target the terrorists and criminal networks that sow violence and chaos throughout Afghanistan. With this authority, there is no chance for the state-sponsored terrorism to operate openly in Afghanistan and for the Taliban fighters to rule Afghanistan.  They will be targeted where ever they are.

The people of Pakistan also suffer from terrorism sheltered by their government.  It has badly affected their economy and brought a bad name to Pakistan.  Pakistan is branded as terrorists sponsoring state in the world.  The people of Pakistan have to exert pressure on their government to stop supporting terrorism and fueling the war in Afghanistan.  We are deserve to live in peace and brotherhood. The Pakistani government has hijacked its people.  It is time for them to act before their country is fully isolated.  Ultimately, it is the public who suffer.  The Pakistani government has no right to cause miseries to its people and to the people of Afghanistan.

Now, it is time for Pakistan to demonstrate its commitment to peace and forcing the Taliban to lay down weapons and reconcile with the Afghan Government.  Today, President Ghani, once again called on the Taliban to denounce violence and stop killing its own people and destroying public properties.  Afghan Government still believes that a political approach is the best and the only way to end this war. The doors of negotiations are still open for the Taliban.  It is the last chance for them.  They need to hurry up before it is too late.  They will lose and they will have no place to hide in the world.  It is time to welcome the government call for reconciliation and let ANDSF and U.S. forces to eliminate ISIS-K and other terrorist groups operating in the country.  The time is running for the Taliban.  They have to make the right decision or they will soon be part of the history—stories telling their barbarism and brutality in Afghanistan.
